| (My best guess) The free DP is a bet by the elevator, they sell your corn and pick up the carry in the market to the month of their choosing. Not an elevator, but guessing sell December. Either they move that corn in sept or october and capture that carry, or the spreads up front move higher and they can roll it forward for a higher price with less time. Now they could also by the spread in anticipation of a rally in it. May be no better time than when funds are record short. But that may be too mych risk for them. I am unsure. Then again this whole thing could be off base.
