I hope I'm not insulting you.... let's say you buy $10,000 in 17 week T-bills. That is the amount you get at maturity. Treasury will withdraw $9,917.44 (taken from last 17 wk auction). So, if you have $10k to invest, you could actually purchase $10,100 then around $10k is deducted from your checking account.
Tomorrow the Treasury is auctioning 4 and 8 week t-bills.
