South Central Kansas | I had my haygrazer swathed yesterday with a Hesston disc mower with a metal roll crimper on it. Before I could get over to the field he was a third done and the windrows were pretty tight. I got the swather man to widen out the windrows and they are drying faster.
I have a Vermeer R23 rake that I can roll the windrows over, but was wondering about using my JD 1518 mower to scatter the windrows so they would dry faster. That Hesston swather did a super job of crimping, every stalk is pulverized. It usually take 10 days to two weeks to get haygrazer dry, but this stuff may dry in three or four days with this hot wind. Would like to get it baled before it rains.
Any thoughts on using the mower for a tedder to scatter the windrows for faster drying? The rake will pick up every leaf and stalk and roll it back into the windrow I think.
