Paul,

Yea I understand that the program is not popular. Quite frankly I am baffled by the apathy toward it. I sincerely think there are a lot of farms making a big mistake. Seems in many cases the farmers who do take the time to figure it out are not telling their neighbors, probably figure it will give them a leg up, and I think that it will.

I have this funny feeling that if we see a year with lower prices/yields (perhaps 2009 in IL?) that we will hear a lot more grumbling about how some farms can't keep up with rising rents. What the grumblers may not know is that the neighbor who can afford to bid more just got a $40, $60, $100 or more ACRE payment that they did not.

Seems to be a lot of herd following going on, but that is not unusual in Ag. I assume (hope?) though that people smart enough to hang out on AgTalk and learn will not follow the herd but take the time themselves (or hire someone like us) to take a serious look at this program and decide for themselves.
