my last field was black moist on top, but good and solid. The seed opener would have just made as slot, with spike wheel probably just making holes. ( this was stipped last fall) I ran the units as shallow as I could, actually holding them up with the hyd., just tickling the ground a couple inches deep. When I came back 3hrs later the loose dirt had greyed off, and planted like a garden, with perfect emergence.

The field that I tilled with a disk ended up slabby, and never did work down right. ( don't have a field cult/harrow) . With the rough ground came poorer emergence.

Like I said, love the strip/plant system, as long I can get rid of the weeds.
