NW Washington | I checked a old odd book I have that is all welding and metal working tips which was written by an old retired welder. His language skills are a bit lacking but he has some good info.
And for this situation of building up a worn shaft he recommends first heating the shaft to 250 degrees and then welding length ways and rotating the shaft and welding overlapping beads on alternating sides 180 degrees apart until the whole area is covered. That is, weld bead on one side rotate 180 degree and weld a bead on that side. When the welding is done heat the area to red hot and let it naturally cool to get rid of internal stresses in the shaft caused by the welding. | |
