as stated above. mow it. If you can find a little bit of a rise to put the pile on that helps even more. If theres a slight crown on the hill it allows any moisture that gets into the pile to flow out. Plastic is a jerk to clean up and doesn't let moisture out the bottom. You will have less loss than you expect.
