Western Iowa | Glad to get the imput. If I have a complete loss on my farm I can count on federal crop. According to the spreadsheets out there there will be payment if prices decline after being high the last 2 yrs. That is what we are seeing more or less right now. If I am wrong, I am out only 20% of my Direct payment and 30% of my couter cyclical payment. A one year payment off the ACRE program under the right conditions (like we are in now) could pay way more than the DCP program. If prices stay high or go up, then I won't miss the decreases in my direct payment or cc payments. Its hard to explain this when I don't fully understand it myself, but then again I didn't fully understand the old program either.
I might add that this program was created when the belief was that commodity prices were going to be high for the next 5-7 yrs. They were trying to save some money on direct and cc payments. Not the case today i'm afraid.
