Seed bed prep is everything in planting native warm season grasses. Seeding too deep and you will have germination problems, too loose of seed bed and you will have germ problems. I have found no till bean stubble is the best seed bed a guy can get for native warm season grasses. Also early weed control, expecially cheat grass and piegon grass can play a big part in germination of warm season grasses. Plateau is a chemical used now that will give you some preplant control of those weeds. I would not do a dormate seeding unless i had to. In my experience that is the worst time to seed. I have seen many failed seedings that were dormate. Depending on where you are located warm season grasses should be planted about the first of may. warm season grasses wont germinate untill soil temp and sunlight are right. There is a lot of hard seed in switchgrass that will come the following year. Seeding warm season grasses can be tough and its a waiting game.
