Southeastern Alberta | The problem with that idea is that sweetclover is a biennial. So it would start good in august and come back in the spring after the frost. Sounds like a cool season annual legume would be great for that situation. Some sort of a lentil or field pea that would grow fast and then freeze out. The sweetclover seems to be a slow starter and would probably not be a large N benefit. If I were you I'd be looking into a forage pea that would put large amounts of biomass on early. | |
