| Maybe we can synthesize that by placing reflecting plastic on the ground to bounce the sunlight into the plant from several directions. Perhaps the plastic would not be mirror flat, but be made of tiny domes to spread the sun in many directions. So that even if the sun is overhead where the top leaves shade the most, the plastic causes light to come in from the sides. Some organic gardeners swear by colored plastic on the ground to encourage plant growth (and act as a tough mulch to hold back weeds).
Or maybe tracking mirrors at the north, east, and west sides of the field to focus the sun sideways across the field.
