We have a couple of short tails, 1 came from their first winter she had the squirts or too high of protein levels in the hay manure froze on the tail and built up to be quite a ball, cutoff the circulation and tail fell off, I think that is what happened to both actually, now try to watch closer and if I see it happening i intervene quicker.
