E.Central MN | A guy we know was getting ready to have an auction. He decided to burn a pile of tires on a foggy morning, he couldn't even see his mailbox it was so foggy. Should be safe to get away with it, right?
Well, somebody saw it or smelled it and turned him in to the DNR. The game warden showed up and told him he was getting a ticket for illegally burning a small # of tires. When the guy started to complain, the warden pointed to the pile of ash with steel wires from burned tires and said if I dig thru that pile I bet I'll find evidence that you burned a lot more than that, do you want me to do that? The guy shut up and accepted the ticket.
Our county hazardous waste facility used to promote Earth Day -- they would accept tires, etc for a fee depending on size, they held the event one Sat morning each year. They would get "Sentence to Serve" people to do the physical labor. They haven't done that for a few years, not sure why, maybe no federal funding for that any more? | |
