South Central MN		The deer nibbled the green beans in the spring, then the rabbits destroyed what was left.

Turnips probably taste bad to deer so they leave them alone. Cattle on the other hand will eat them once they know what to do with them.

Beets seem to be a favorite of varmints here as well.
