Kettle Moraine, WI | My consistent successful results: Stainless 4qt saucepan Dozen eggs from refrigerator into bottom (forms a single layer) Fill cold tap water about an inch above eggs Electric range on 8 Bring to hard boil (eggs rattling in pan and rolling boil) Turn off burner and leave saucepan on burner Timer set to 11 minutes Take off burner and place under running cold tap water until water cold Dump out water take out eggs and place in refrigerator
Works consistently every time for me. Not overcooked grey color, solid hard boiled yolks.
Eggs almost to their best by date are supposed to peel easier. Eggs that float are older as they built up air in their shells.
Eta: turn off heat when rolling boil. I don't measure how long boiled. Running under cold water until cold shuts down the cooking process
