Subject: RE: Started harvesting double crop

North Central Illinois
This did around 25 bu/acre. Last year we were dry and hot during bloom and it made 15.

This year I scrimped and only planted ~30 lb/acre because it was a last minute decision and that's all I could do with the seed on hand. 45-50 lb/acre is a better choice.

Be aware that if you take buckwheat to maturity you WILL have volunteers. Now that I've learned how to accommodate that I'm not concerned. They're usually done emerging at problematic density by late May. When small a flamer knocks them dead so I have that up my sleeve if planting corn early. I find that they're a non issue volunteering in winter wheat. A few in soybeans is just an aphid predator feeder.
