I don't mind further breaking stuff that's broke so I'd guess the battery just has too much resistance to charge. I'd test the voltage being applied to the batteries just to make sure the charge circuit is working. Their may be a part number on the battery or it might be obvious that it's a 3S lithium or whatever.
