As a custom applicator, it may not be my place to comment (I am not a farmer) but I would lean HEAVILY towards letting the predators do the work. Insecticide is the easiest thing to apply but I HATE doing it because of then adverse affects on everything else UNLESS you you can use a selective insecticide. Not only do non-selective insecticides kill everything this year, there have been cases where the following year, the field that was sprayed with non selective insecticides the previous year was polluted with various insect problems due to the lack of beneficials. IMO, non selective insecticides should ONLY be used under extreme circumstances, never borderline cases.
