NEMO | Brome is gone. Dead. Never came back.
Places had lots of Timothy, some Orchard and Fescue come back. Weeds thrived on probably half of it.
Baled it off and put to SOYBEANS!
Several hay fields in the area went to the cash crop.
Hay will be in short supply this winter. Slow death for the cattle man. Cows will have to survive on 'better than a snow bank' ditch weed and corn stalks! Very little CRP left to be able to emergency hay or pay to hay.
Urea greed of $900+ ton a couple months ago is now under $600 ton quotes. Light hay crop is the outcome. Do they make more money selling almost none at $900/ton or a bunch at $590/ton??? Pigs get fed, hogs get slaughtered!
Something has to give if there are to be any cows left in the countryside...or at least around here. Really not sure why we keep banging our head against the wall. If I didn't have boys and nephews coming up the ranks the decision would be easier. | |
