Nice table.

I don't think silicone will slide very easily. It may smudge the table though.

They do make mats for that type thing. We have one that is plastic. It's about 2' x 3'. Has templates for rolling out pie crusts and such.

Maybe a big glass top would be better?
Have you created a table too nice to actually use?
What are you going to do for meals? Are you going to let glasses and plates actually touch the wood? Or will you have place mats exclusively?
