Iowa
We are having a good year. (Too wet today). I do consumer work almost exclusively. Commercial is too competitive and contractors are always trying to haggle your price down. Mainly topsoil/ drainage/finish work for upper-end homes. I am bidding approximately 5 weeks out--was 4 weeks out last week, but am landing more than we are completing.

I learned a long time ago that there is no money in "pushing dirt around". The money is in solving people's problems (usually drainage) and designing and building high-end landscapes.

In fact, we have been upgrading equipment at prices unheard of a couple season's ago. Just bought a new $40,000 list machine for $27,500. Deals are out there. Work is out there if you cater to the right type of client.
