Cd-rom is for the most part extinct. It serves no purpose anymore. I have bought a new computer that came with one in probably a decade. I guarantee if you bought that quickbooks cd rom it would want to connect to the internet and update anyway. I have been using quickbooks for about 15 years and the software updates pretty frequently.
