Somerville, Indiana | That last sentence tells it all. Just keep oil in the gear boxes. The aluminum boxes on our 963 have never caused a problem, new in 1986. Wish it still had bronze bushings and grease fittings. Its on its 3rd set of snapping rollers and gathering chains. We stand it up in the shipping skid, makes it easy to get to. We have done all the rebuilding here. The main drawback is like you said, driving all six rows from the left side doesn't work well in tough wet stalks. Needs to be powered from both sides. When we went to the tilt feeder house deal, the left drive shaft and sprocket problem got a lot worse as they use a shorter drive shaft in order to get a PTO shaft to it from the feeder house. | |
