Subject: Re: John Deere 348 Gearbox Question

Huntley Montana
Do you have the HD driveline? I had both gear boxes go on my 348s the 1st yr I owned them under warrintee. I then took the slip clutches down to a regular slip clutch & never had another problem in 15 yrs with the gear boxes. Slip clutch disks are cheap compared to gearbox gears. Another idea I was also told is to move the crankarm a few cogs now & then & retime the baler to move the load to other teeth in the gear box. Your teeth missing are where the plunger hits the load the hardest.
