The AM series 3-point hitch mowers were changed to a direct drive back in 1997 - no belts, yes - there is about a 1 inch drive shaft that runs in the frame through a bearing into a double universal joint and to an overrunning clutch then to the gearbox. The overrunning clutch turns where the belts would normally slip. Customers tell us that their Krone mowers pull better - I think the reason for that is that there is no inner shoe where the gearbox normally rides on belt drive mowers.
