Subject: RE: Tell me why carburetor keeps pumping crank case full of gas

NW Ohio,near Findlay
just had this happen on a Deere 3020 gas tractor my friend has. He called me up, tractor run fine when he stopped it and when it started it a week later, run for about 2 minutes and extreme backfire in engine, really bad. A month earlier, we installed new points, cap, coil, thought maybe something in coil or condenser went bad. Changed them out, they looked OK, but changed them. Started it up, run fine for 2 minutes, same thing. Pulled air intake off of carb, thought maybe carb was stuck, gas didn't run out of intake, but was wet and smelled of gas. Then I check the oil, way over full and gas smell and thin. The lift pump went bad and gas tank was full and it just filled the crankcase. Then when we started it, the gas in the oil must have vapored off and into carb. Lucky didn't cause and damage. If your machine as a mechanical fuel pump on motor it may be your problem.
