Oklahoma | My Grandpa told stories of being a kid hiring out to run the first steel wheeled tractors to come to OK. They would get a furrow set, then get it in the furrow, hop off and go chase rabbits but they had to catch the tractor before the end of the row. He told one story of almost not making it and the tractor was climbing up the ditch and he reached back to pull the plow up and got his hand caught in between the seat and the lever and thought he was going to loose his hand. Also told about he and his brothers would be in the same field so one would be on each end of the field to catch the tractor, turn it around, and head it back the other way. I never heard him talk about any actually getting away though. | |
