Subject: RE: 4450 PTO wants to coast

Emporia, ks
I just replace the pto clutch and brake pack on my 4755 power shift. My clutch pack was welded solid and that ate the brake pack out. The pto shaft always turned in this case but I've heard of the brake pack failing and causing the pto shaft to coast too. If that's your problem, Deere will charge a good bit I bet. I had to split mine two places to get to both packs......nice thinking on some JD engineer to make it that way. Oh, in my case, I got a used brake pack from a salvage yard and he gave me one from a 4050 thinking it probably would be in better condition than one from a big frame tractor but after I got it all in and back together, I slid the pto shaft in and the brake gear was too small for my shaft to fit so I had to take it all back apart and get the correct one. The salvage yard sure was "sorry" but didn't refund $.
