Subject: 2009 planting season pictures

North Central Kansas

Here are a few pictures I took this year. Started May 19th and finished tonight. 1200 acres in 12 days. Never took a day off of work. Ran late every night and was able to plant all three days on the long weekend and this weekend. 600 acres of beans and 600 acres of milo. The first beans I planted are up but the last fields will need a drink. We went from too wet to bone dry in a very short time. The one of the drawbar was taken this morning. Finished a field 12 miles west of home last night on the west side of 81 highway and drove home. Got lucky on that one. Apparently the bolt snapped off. The ones of the planter unit show the problem I have been having this year. Put all new blades on this spring and have 5 of the 12 leading disk blades lose the bearing holder. The rivets are shearing off. The ground has got very hard here but have never had this problem before. This is the eighth year with this planter 1996 CaseIH 955 parrallel front fold. Bought an EZ Steer this year to go with my EZ Guide 500. That took alot of the strain out. The picture of the pigs was in a field west of my house that I planted for my neighbor. The pigs aren't his. They belong to another neighbor. Not sure how those beans are going to do. The pigs were going down the row as I planted. Glad to be done.
