| For the complete history of all Allis-Chalmers ag equipment, I highly recommend the Swinford book:

Gleaner series of combines with 27" wide cylinders started as the Gleaner E in 1962, then the EIII in 1968, then K in 1969 and finally the K2 in 1977 until production ended in 1981. About 21,000 E & EIII and 24,000 K & K2's were built in Independance, MO.
All started out with the same specs:
Headers: from 10' to 15'
Cornheads: 2x38", 3x30", 4x20"
Bin capacity: 66 bushels, or 96 on K2's starting in 1978
Cylinder width: 27"
Cylinder diameter: 19ΒΌ"
Seperator width: 32"
Seperator length: 165", or 183" on K2's starting in 1978
The E/EIII had the Allis 4 cyl. 226 cid gas engine; the final evolution of the old WD45.
The K & K2 had Chevy 250 straight six's, about 75 HP
Starting with the K2, the optional AC 200cid, 4cyl. turbo diesel was offered.
All had varible V-belt drives on 3-speed transmissions, no hydro.
The K2 differs from the K in having transverse flow fan, better cab, and available electronic shaft monitor and digital tach.
Here's our K in wheat in 2007, (it was a very dry summer back then).
Although not immune to breakdowns, it is emminently fixable and most all mechanical parts are accessible and man-handleable. No crane or scaffolding needed.
