Wisconsin | Use a non contact thermometer to take the temp of the block and head, thermostat outlet to the radiator, and water pump inlet from the radiator, all when it's in the red, or as hot as you dare get it. You should see where the heat is and isn't. If the thermostat is not opening, then you'll see a huge temp drop through the radiator. if the thermostat is opening fine, but the radiator is plugged with dirt, then you'll see a low temp drop through the radiator, like less than 10 F.
overheating on ag and construction stuff is a dirty radiator, until proven otherwise.
