Hard to give a definitive answer without the gun in hand, however, based on the description (assuming I understand it correctly), if you open up the crack as best you can and inject white wood glue into it (I use needle/syringes that i get from diabetic friends) then wrap it TIGHTLY with surgical tubing to hold it together while the glue cures, the resultant repair will be stronger than the original wood.
