Subject: R52 tailings elevator plugging Help!

Central PA
We have been working on harvesting Buckwheat that was swathed 2-3 weeks ago (18' cut on tall buckwheat), but have had cloudy damp and rainy weather ever since cutting. On the few dryer days have been combining with pickup head. anyplace the buckwheat straw is a bit tuff, it loads the processor and plugs the tailings elevator. The buckwheat threshes really easily. would opening the concave more (than 4-5) help to avoid breakup of the straw and help it to move through easier without getting to the tailings? I hesitate to slow the rotor too much (running 400-500 rpm) with trying to move this stuff through the proccessor as quickly as possible. keeping wind down to avoid too much grain out the back. Any ideas on combining this tough stemmy stuff?
