sw ontario | News this week said 'new' US car sales were around 12 mil., IDK what Canadian number was but it was 30% below average...
All the Big 3 had plants in Windsor , now Ford has engine plant and Chrysler has van plant , GM long gone.
Those good paying jobs paid for lot's of homes, farms,ect....Back in 60's/'70's lot's of no education guys who were willing to do factory work made a great living and retired with full pension/benfits after 30 yrs......Now with tiered wage scale, small footprint its just ok job.
edit to add: With employee pricing (which we use) the car dealer still gets a company kickback at the end of the year of $1,500-2,000 per vehicle. The 'selling at dealer cost' is a myth. Even with employee pricing they often toss in $500 worth of extras like window tints , upgrades, ect.
