| Don't buy the cheap carbon steel drills. HSS (High Speed Steel) are the general purpose drill. It will say HSS on the shank. May say HSS Cobalt, just cobalt, something like "M42" (denotes so much cobalt content), those are going to be a little better and last longer before abrasive action takes its toll. Sorry, I can't remember all the grades, and don't have a book in front of me. Solid carbide in a pistol drill will probably make you say "aw shucks" when you break that high dollar bad boy like a stick of glass. They really need something rigid like a drill press or a mill, and are pretty pricey. | |
