The people believe the government is trying to trick them, they need to do their own research since thy don’t trust science, they saw a compelling argument on youtube, and they know a friend of a friend who insists the world is flat.
The father of academia who founded the academy at Athens 387 years before the birth of Jesus the Christ was Plato who had been a student of Socrates. This was the western worlds first institution of higher learning. He taught that the sun and the planets revolved around the Earth. This was the scientific consensus.
500 years later, and 182.. years after the birth of Jesus, Ptolemy in Alexandria after his trigonometric work the Almagest later wrote "Procession of the Planets" in which he used trigonometry to prove earth was indeed the center of the solar system which the sun and planets revolved around. Using mathematics, more specifically Trigonometry he charted the course of each planet in the solar system and their spirograph like orbit to a mathematical precision never done before.
It was predictable, mathematically provable, observable and verifiable. Proven Science.
almost 1400 years later in 1543 a polock named Copernicus wrote that the sun was the center of the universe, and in 1632, 12 years after the pilgrims landed in America, Galileo Galilei used a lens to observe and write his paper comparing Ptolemy and Copernicus, and siding with copernicus.
This went against over 2000 years of settled science that even the pope thought was settled science. For this scientific harasey, He had Galileo put under inquisition and house arrest for the rest of his life.
Turns out 2000 years of predictable, mathematically provable, observable and verifiable settled science that even suckered in a pope was completely wrong and some polock was right.
