Subject: RE: Rain makes grain

Nw Iowa
In my 40 years of farming I have never seen such variability of yields. We had a lot of our farms in the only 3-6in of rain before the late Aug rains, , some of it varieties that either that surprised us to upside and others absolutely bombed. ( proven varieties that we have grown before) We have 4 quarter sections in same section, pretty close soil types, pretty similar topography but we farm it in 160 acre fields . 2 quarters that had been corn on corn, with same variety, were by far best. 3rd quarter 20-25bu less, different variety but not corn on corn. We are about 1/2 done on beans and yields all over the place. We are fortunate to have some pretty consistent good quality ground but not very consistent yields this year. Very crazy year
