| I had the same situation, and I planted into the stale seedbed. It was dry on top, but sticky underneath.
It turned out poorly. The sticky ground turned into a brick after two days of near 100 degree temps (which hardly ever happens in MN until July!).
The seed trench is like a little slit with a brick on each side. If the seed misses the slit and tries to grow through the brick, it's done for.
I wish that I would have let it dry for another day and then re-worked and planted it. But I was too impatient. | |
