Just like training pigs or goats to one strand electric fence. They have to be trained to stay in before you release them with the fence. Almost need a fence where the wire is to keep them in so they can be trained that they can't cross the line. If you just put the collar on, they'll learn real fast that they can run over the line and get away from the shock.
