Ive tried heavy grass covers like that before and had failure while other can plant head high covers and look beautiful. We can either get wet and the moisture never leaves and it suffocates, or we can wet and then extreme heat will seem to cook them under that layer of straw. Theres also some nutrient tie up in that residue.
