Hawesville, KY | I had a neighbor who was a Vietnam Vet. He was mean and hateful. Pass by and wave, might get flipped off, might wave back, might get ignored never knew. Even came to my house once in a rage and pointed a gun at my dog laying on my front porch and threatened to kill because he ate his dogs food. Years later, at a festival in town the local VFW was doing a memorial ceremony. People walking by glancing and pretty much ignoring. I stopped with my 5 yo son, hand on our hearts while they raised the flag and remained till ceremony was over, no more than 5-6 minutes. Has we started to walk off he called out my name, and remember thinking "Oh God what now". He came over with a tear in his eyes and said "You're OK". We've haven't had a cross word since. Not sure I know or even want to know the hell hole he endured, but I respect and thank all our vets. Thank you and have a great time in Nashville. | |
