Leesburg, Ohio | 77: Here's how I'd figure it, more or less according to the rawson book:
8 mph x5280'/60minutes= 704'/min
34,000 pop /17424'/ac.in 30" rows = 1.95 seeds/foot
1.95seeds x 704' = 1374 seeds/minute
1374 / 30 cell disc = 46 rpm at the seed disc
Get an accurate tooth count for every sprocket from the motor to the seed disc drive. Start with motor rpm (300 max), and multiply the first driver sprocket tooth count (12 on the motor) and divide by driven, multiply by next driver, divide by next driven...all the way thru. If it comes out close to 46 rpm (in this example) you're good to go. I'd check the numbers on the low end or at least your normal speed, to be sure also. Change sprockets somewhere in the middle to make it come out right. From the numbers you give, if I'm using the right ones for driver/driven, looks to me like you need to change the second 23 to a 33, (or change the first 23 to about a 16) to get your 8 mph speed at 300 motor rpm. That should put the motor at 150 rpm at 4 mph if I've figured right (no guarantees!!!) so you could slow things down a bit and still be in range. A 40 cell disc would change things a bit.
I do NOT guarantee my math to be correct, so check it well.
