Southern Pa. | Nope, never overhauled an 8.1 yet. I do know there are times when aftermarket tries to rectify an OEM'S poor design. Maybe this is an example??
What does your dealer have to say about the piston design Deere offers currently for the 8.1?? Bulletproof?
Obviously, there are more things than pistons in an overhaul kit. I've seen enough tolerance/quality issues with some aftermarket OH kits that I'm kinda leery of them. I'd use an OEM headgasket, unless someone has lots of experience with this particular kit, and says otherwise.
