PLO NW MN - 6/12/2021 21:04 Corey Booker and Elizabeth Warren have another piece of legislation that would fund buying 160 acres of land for Black farmers and maybe they included other minorities also. So I’m thinking they help get this debt forgiveness into a Covid bill. Also Vilsack mentions in interviews how black farmers got a lower percentage of Covid relief payments of what should of been their share. I think it’s quoted as 10% of farmers are black but they only got 1% of the payment. It’s a simple one liner that apparently never gets a follow up. Do those 10% farm 10% of the land that was eligible for a payment? If so why did they not get payments? Did they sign up? You were Sec of Ag during the last payment earlier this year and since this is a priority for you did you make sure all eligible signed up? According to the 2017 census from the link above 1.4% of farmers are black, not 10%. Of the 47,000 black farmers in the US, the top 12 states for for black farmers (42,000 total) are all south of the Mason Dixon line. Suffice to say of the 5,000 producers left a very minuscule number, if any, live in the grain belt and are grain farmers. Out of curiosity do any of you know of any black grain farmers anywhere? Also, it has already been proven in a court of law there has been a pattern of discrimination in the USDA against black farmers. That info is available online if any of you are interested in getting a better understanding of the issues surrounding the reparations.
