In the case of double crop beans...........the check book should determine your population more than agronomy, you really can't get double crop beans too thick. You don't have to worry about them getting too tall, you don't have to worry about them going down, it's simply a matter of how much you want to invest. As others have encouraged you, if you have a good drill, use it.
