Driftless SW Wisconsin | timjohn - 6/10/2021 13:08 Jim, why not wrap the dry hay instead of taking up shed space?
Good question. This is the driest hay I’ve ever baled. I figured it would be nice to keep 100 or so bales for long term/emergency use storage. Hopefully weather changes and I can make enough for the winter on 2nd and 3rd cutting.
So have a plan to fill the back 1/3 of the shed with this very dry but very green hay and still have room for the baler etc in front. Worst case is I need to feed it this winter and move everything around to get at it. Everything after 1st cutting will be wrapped.
I still remember 2012/13 when I paid $225 each for a few bales of ditch hay to feed cows during calving in a late spring following 2012 drought. Don’t ever want to get in that situation again. I was buying all my hay at the time and ran out.
