| That was a most awesome horse. He was an easy keeper and died because his attendants did not control his pasture time in the spring and he ate too much fresh spring grass and foundered. When they did the autopsy they found out that his heart was twice the normal size of a horse. This explained his ability to outrun all the others. I had the pleasure to be able to work on the grounds of the Meadow Farm in Virginia where Secretariat was born and raised. It was a beautiful farm. Now it is the home of the Virginia State Fair. They removed the practice tracks and most of the barns. Pitty.
