Central Minnesota | The dumb things are psychotic about sucking anything with teats. I have a small herd and run the cows and calves together during the winter (I calve in May/June). All of the red angus calves pretty much wean themselves but the Akaushi cross are another story. They’re a little high strung and very “leggy.” Not my idea of what a beef cow should look like. You absolutely would need to get a hefty premium to make up the difference between an Akaushi/Red Angus cross and even a purebred Red Angus.
Last, I’ve never had any calving problems with the Reds. Memorial Day weekend of 2020 I had three true breeches, it was probably a freak occurrence but that definitely started me off with a bad taste in my mouth. | |
