So I have to have the serial type plug? No way to use the deutsch connector?
I believe you have the wrong foot switch and cable. The cable you have is used to start/stop the onscreen coverage map and does not engage EZ-Steer. I believe you need a different switch and cable.
The foot switch you need is a momentary type and must plug into the serial type plug to engage EZ-Steer. The switch you have is a regular type and not a momentary so your switch will not work even if you change the connector.
The system allows you to use the menu and setup up if you want a coverage map based on EZ-Steer or the other switch that you have or just to use the screen icon.
Sound like miscommunication and they gave you the wrong part.
