Central ND | I would try the Dickey sensors first. Biggest hurdle will be verifying that what you are seeing on the 20/20 is actually what is going on the ground. Best way I found on our 2150 was to set seed depth at like 1/2", wire up closing discs and unhook the springs on the press wheels. Find a firm spot in the field, set your down pressure way up, and plant for a couple hundred feet. With the down pressure way up, the seed trench should stay open so you can count seeds. Number of seeds in 17.4 feet times 1000 is your population.
Ultimately, once you know what you're seeing on the 20/20 is accurate, doing a good job will be dependent on how well you can dial in your planter. We have PP v-set meters, so all I need to do is dial in the vacuum, the meter does the rest. Some seed likes 13", some likes 24". Sometimes, adjusting the vacuum by a 1/2" is the right answer. Also, only as much talc/graphite as necessary. Too much graphite will affect the singulators ability to get rid of doubles.
Good luck. Take the time and put in the effort to learn the 20/20. It will allow you to plant better than you ever thought possible. | |
